Why Short Film Fest?

There has never been a dearth of Short films. However there has not been much publicity and wider audience for them. Rare opportunities to showcase these works of creativity come with a rider – a heavy entry fees. The glamour that surrounds the film industry is in sharp contrast to the apathy shown towards short films. The lack of a common platform for the talented film makers is evident. This Short Film Festival with no entry fee is an attempt to bring together the short film makers across India and provide a platform for the creative geniuses and their creations.

The Short Film Festival being organized in Bengaluru is the result of coming together of by2coffeefilms and  K. V. Subbanna Aptha Samooha. In this venture we are ably guided and supported by a host of luminaries from the Kannada literary world and film industry:

  • Shri U. R. Ananthamurty -Eminent Kannada Writer, Critic and Thinker; recipient of Padma Bhushan and Jnana Peeta Award
  • Shri Girish Kasarvalli - Noted Film Director; recipient of Padmashri and several National/international Film Awards
  • Shri Manu Chakravarthy - Professor, film theorist and National Award winning film critic
  • Shri P. Sheshadri - Director of Television serials, Documentaries, Tele-films and feature films; National award winner for films
  • Shri B. Suresh - Film and Tele-serial Director, National Film award winner

Multiple others who’ve carved a niche in their chosen field are lending their able guidance and support to this initiative.



K. V. Subbanna Aptha Samooha is carrying forward the legacy of K. V. Subbanna, a pioneer in Kannada theatre and performing arts. He was actively involved in screening best cinemas from across the world followed by intense review of the film screened. In continuation of his ideas, K. V. Subbanna Apta Samooha not only screen classic movies but also rare films which are hitherto unheard of by the common people. Movie screening is followed by interaction between audience and the cast and crew about nuances of film-viewing. This offers an exclusive insight about the movie for a common cine-goer.

By2coffee films, is a bunch of creative engineers with a passion to make short films. For the past 2 years they’ve been involved in making Short films with socially relevant messages. Along with “Nirantara Foundation” they’ve been reaching out to rural and urban kids with their project “My Dream – Education through Short Films”. by2coffee films has participated in various short film festivals and has thus realized the need to launch similar festivals in Bengaluru.
